For students, faculty, and library staff

Send us a document.

If a document cannot be read because of a disability, we will make it accessible. The service is free for students with print disabilities, faculty authors, and library staff. Print disabilities include blindness, low vision, dyslexia and other learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, and motor impairments that affect page turning.

Want to check the document yourself first? Use QCDoc for a plain-language report; send it back to us if you want the repair done.

01 How it works

Three steps. No cost.

  1. 01

    Tell us about your document

Fill the short form below. You do not need an email app. If you would rather email, write to deepa@equitabledocs.org. A WhatsApp channel is coming.

  2. 02

    We make it accessible

Our tools and a trained reviewer fix the reading order, add headings, describe images, mark up tables, and handle equations so the document works with screen readers and other reading software. Standard documents take 5 to 7 business days. Documents with STEM, complex diagrams, or scanned images take up to 10 business days.

  3. 03

    We send it back

We email you when your document is ready, in the format you asked for. If you did not specify, we send a screen-reader-ready PDF. If you need a different format, just reply.

02 Send us your document

Fill this short form. We reply by email.

You do not need an email app to start. Tell us what you need here, and we will email you back, usually the same day, to receive your document.

About you

This helps us see which institutions need support. Leave it blank if it does not apply.

About the document

What kind of accessible version do you need? Choose one or more.

If you cannot attach the file to an email, say so here. We will arrange another way: a download link, a shared drive, or WhatsApp.

We reply as soon as we can, usually the same day. Your information is used only to handle this request.

Prefer email? Write to deepa@equitabledocs.org. You can also call +91 91100 41713.

03 What we can fix, what you get

Most academic document types.

i

Documents we accept

PDFs, including scanned pages. Word documents, .doc and .docx. PowerPoint, .ppt and .pptx. Documents in English, Hindi, and other Indian languages.

ii

What you get back

An accessible PDF that works with screen readers. A Word document with accessible formatting. An EPUB for phones and tablets. HTML for documents with equations and maths. The default is an accessible PDF.

iii

Two kinds of accessible output

Screen-reader accessible, for readers using assistive software. Easy Read, with simplified language and illustrations, for readers with learning and intellectual disabilities. Ask for one or both.

04 Your privacy

Your documents stay between you and us.

Your documents are processed on our servers only. We do not share them with anyone outside the small team that does the remediation work. Reviewers see only the pages or sections they are assigned, not full documents.

We store your document for 90 days so you can download it. After 90 days, we delete it.

05 Questions

Frequently asked.

How long does it take?

Standard documents take 5 to 7 business days. Documents with STEM content, complex diagrams, or scanned images take up to 10 business days. We email you when your document is ready.

Is it really free?

Yes. Free for students with print disabilities, faculty authors, and library staff. There is no charge, no hidden fees, no conditions.

What if my document is not in English?

We support Hindi and other Indian languages. Our tools can process documents in many languages. If your language is not well supported, we will say so honestly rather than deliver poor quality.

What about equations and maths?

We handle equations. Each equation gets a plain-language description that screen readers read aloud, and MathML markup for braille displays. For maths-heavy documents, request the HTML format. It uses MathJax, which works well with screen readers.

Can my university send documents in bulk?

Yes. We work with universities to process documents at scale, train staff, and set up their own accessibility pipelines. The institutional path is at non-commercial cost-only pricing. Start a conversation through the Contact us form on the landing page.
